IQ Tests

Intelligence tests attempt to measure your intelligence-that is, your basic ability to understand the world around you, assimilate its functioning, and apply this knowledge to enhance the quality of your life.

Intelligence, therefore, is a measure of a potential, not a measure of what you've learned (as in an achievement test), and so it is supposed to be independent of culture.

Test for CHILDREN
  • # WISC: The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), developed by David Wechsler, is an intelligence test for children between the ages of 6 and 16 inclusive that can be completed without reading or writing.
  • # SFB (1 year to 2.11 years): The Seguin Form Board Test is used to assess visual discrimination and matching and eye-hand coordination.
Seguin Form Board [SFB]: It is based on the single factor theory of intelligence, and measures speed and accuracy. It is used in case of speech impairment and as a screening test to select the appropriate battery of IQ tests. This test can be used from age 3½ to 10 years, and upto adult level for the mentally handicapped. Administration time 15-30 minutes.
  • # DAM: The Draw-A-Person Test (DAP, DAP test, or Goodenough-Harris Draw-A-Person Test) is a psychological projective personality or cognitive test used to evaluate children and adolescents for a variety of purposes.
Developed originally by Florence Goodenough in 1926, this test was first known as the Goodenough Draw-A-Man test. It is detailed in her book titled Measurement of Intelligence by Drawings. Dr. Dale B. Harris later revised and extended the test and it is now known as the Goodenough-Harris Drawing Test.

The Goodenough Draw-A-Man Test was originally conceived as a measure of intelligence but has also been related to measures of sensory defect, visual-motor coordination, neurologic dysfunction, personality, and school readiness.
  • # KB (3 years to 22 years): Binet Kamat Test Of Intelligence [BKT] Includes both verbal and performance tests. Age 3 to 22 years and adults with mental handicap. Administration time 2-2½ hours.
Tests for ADULTS
  • # WAIS (16+ years): Subjects over 16 are tested with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)
  • # WAPIS (16+ years, if uneducated): Wechsler Adult Performance Intelligence Scale, Indian Adaptation [WAIS-PS.]. Age 15 to 45 years. Administration time 1 hour.
  • # KAMAT BINET (till 22 years)
ACHIEVEMENT TESTS: Achievement and aptitude tests are usually seen in educational or employment settings, and they attempt to measure either how much you know about a certain topic (i.e., your achieved knowledge), such as mathematics or spelling, or how much of a capacity you have (i.e., your aptitude) to master material in a particular area, such as mechanical relationships.
  • # WJ (2 years till 90+ years): The Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement, Designed to measure intellectual abilities and academic achievement.
APTITUDE TESTS:
  • # DAT (8th Std to 12th Std): The Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) is a multiple aptitude battery designed to measure junior and senior high school students' and adults' ability to learn or succeed in certain areas. The test is suitable for group administration and is primarily for use in educational and vocational counselling, although it may be used in employee selection.
